My new career choice?

Rosebud75, I am a fellow Vermonter who went back to school at the age of 48. I had not been in any formal classes since 1974! I took classes at the Community College of Vermont and got my Lab Assistant Certificate. I had a 3.89 GPA and have taken additional classes towards my Associates Degree. I am only 4 classes away from it. CCV is a great school because you can use their credits at other schools. It also is less expensive than many of the colleges that will accept CCV credits. Get all your general education classes at CCV and save big bucks, then once you have them under your belt, go to a school for your specialty. I know quite a few people that have done this for nursing. They go to CCV and then transfer to Clinton Community Colege or Castleton to complete their education. I went to the CCV in St Albans. It is very small but you can get alot of individual attention, if you need it ( to get you back in the swing of school and studying). I give you kudos

for your decision. Just remember that you will reach your goal if you take it one class at a time! You Go Girl!

Thx for all teh support guys. I know I've made the right decision. I went to a friend's house the other day, and somehow ended up with two chihuauas and a dalmation - the small one's on my lap, the big one on my feet - while I sat in a recliner chatting with my friend. I know that's what i want to do. Not a lot of vet hospitals in my area to hunt in though, and few (if any) around here hire unexperienced people.

It's just the process of getting there that seems overwhelming, but Hubby is the type to just remind me to take it a step-at-a-time.

SO right now I am waiting for transcripts from a diff. school to come. I don't know if anything will transfer or not but I'll try it anyway. Then if all goes well I'll begin next term - probably an online class for chemistry or something. We'll see. Hubby needs a chemistry course too - so it would be funny for us to take it together!! (Not that we NEED more chemistry, we make our own...ha ha)

I drove schoo bus for 13 years so my kids would not be in daycare they came with me...on monday sept 8th I start a nursing course

I too went back to school in my late 30's for a complete career change and experienced much of the same feelings you all did.

I would point out the fine example you will set for your kids.

You have a goal in mind to make a better life for you and your family, you've developed a plan to reach that goal by futhering your education, and you are now gittin' it done!

You will be a live example of the rewards of hard work, determination and education.

How cool is that?
