Here are some close ups of the partridge... maybe you have a guess on gender?

Here are pics of my new chocolate chicks:

They're all the same age. The breeder said 7 weeks but I am not sure how accurate that is.... they're 95% feathered in...

First one is a cockerel and the rest are pullets.

The top two are cockerels. The bottom chick may be a pullet but the jury is out on that one still.

I thought I had two partridge cockrels so I'm glad to hear you think they're all pullets except the one. According to feather sexing my 5 day old partidge are 3 pullets and a cockrel so I have a good starter flock with 2 cockrels and 6 pullets!I may need to buy a few more choclates and hope for hens lol
The choclates are what I'm having g trouble with lol I think the last one is a pullet just based on behavior. The other two I was thinking were cockrels. Thanks!

Feather sexing, by wing feather growth, only works as a sexlinked cross:

Quote: With Opringtons, it is hit and miss so you will be at the 50% correct mark usually--not much better than chance. It will seem to work but it really does not. The same is true for Australorps.
If you really want to sex them at hatch, learn how to vent sex. That might involve training at a hatchery though.

You can't feather sex orps. I did notice with mine that the tails were a clear indicator of cockerel or pullet very early on, but I'm not sure if that translates to all orps or just the line I got.

Oh that's so so funny because an orp breeder told me to do it and sent me a pic lol! Well even before I wing sexed the chicks the one was huge and just seemed like a boy to me so hopefully I'm still accurate. That was the only chick with short stubby wings and the other 3 were long. He/she just stands out like a sore thumb so it's either a boy or going to be a huge pullet lol either way I'm happy. The partridge roosters are so beautiful I will be happy either way

thanks for the correct info guys!

Your welcome!

They are easy to figure out by 6 weeks usually. There are some breeds that you can use this with by they are mostly leghorn based breeds or crosses. That is not good for orpingtons--we do not want them crossed with leghorns.
