My New Coop...step by step

How did your nest box roof fare during the rain storm?(not sure if it's on he north side)
You might need to put something over the hinge edge...piece of rubber is often used.

So far your coop is exact to mine, except everything is in a different spot, door on a slanted wall, perches and nest boxes on tallest wall, but I did the same slope, metal roofing etc!
Looks great!!!

The awning keeps some of the water off, but I do plan to add a strip of rubber over the hinged edge. Thanks.

Thanks. My chicks like it a lot.

As I posted above, it came a driving rain last night with wind from the north, and the new awnings did the trick. (See pix in post 27.) No rainwater in the coop despite the windows being wide open.

It is going to be cool here today and tomorrow, so I will be able to do some trim work.
That's about as good as you can do. Metal roofs don't leak on houses.

I am back in Tennessee tonight, and won't be able to work on the coop again until Tuesday of next week. Before I left today, I primed the new awnings, but not much else.

My hope had been for a large run, but cost has reared its ugly head, so I am going to start out with 81 square feet. That should be enough for the nine pullets and one roo that I plan to go into the winter with.

Finally got started on the run. It will be slightly over 8' x 12', and will be connected to the coop by a "covered bridge." As you can see in the photo, it's on a slope, but I am planning to level it out and fill it with sand. Still have lots to do on it and the coop.

I am working alone for a day or two, and it's slow going. I began building the retainer walls in order to backfill and level the run. I plan to install a four inch diameter perforated plastic pipe along the bottom of the back wall for good drainage. Then, I can plug the remaining small openings at the bottom of the wall and fill with construction sand.
