I am finally getting around to building a new coop. It is 4 by 8 feet, and I hope to have 8 to 10 pullets and a rooster. As you can see from the pix, it is on quite a slope, and fencing a run is going to be a challenge. It is built on skids so that I can move it if that becomes necessary.

The framing and roof decking were finished yesterday, and it rained last night. I will not get to work on it again until the middle of next week, and I will post more pictures then. The man in the first picture is my friend, Larry, who is helping with the construction.

Here is the framing diagram of the floor and side walls. All studs are 2 by 4 (1.5" x 3.5").

Love the coop design! I am also in the process of building a coop and was curious as to what the heights were of your walls? My coop is going to be darn near identical to yours but I haven't been able to decide on a roof slope. I really like the looks of yours though.

The back wall and the side walls are 72" and the front wall is 80 3/8". That gives a 15 degree roof angle, and makes all the angle cuts for the rafter ends, etc. much simpler. Here are the plans for the front and back walls. The red circles are the roost poles as viewed from the front and back; the lowest roost pole is optional. The horizontal line below the roost poles represents the poop board. Note that the entrance to the nest boxes is under the poop board, but I think the hens will like the added privacy. I may mount the nest boxes a few inches higher on the wall than shown.

Thanks for the reply. I was going to put one long 8' roost along the back wall of my coop but your design may be a better approach given the 4' width of the coop. Your top roost bar seems very close to the ceiling and wall? I'm new to this chicken thing though... my wife thought we needed chickens and guess who gets the title of "Head Chicken Farmer!?"
