My new Key West Chickens

Very interesting birds. My neighbor told me about seeing them this summer when they were on vacation in Key West. Said they were running all over the place! Are they full sized or bantams? I'm not clear on that.

Right on Daniel. They are not bantams but not a huge bird either, very lean and fit I'd say a medium size large fowl and yes about 4 to 5 months old

My roo is nearly 5 months old now and he's farther along in his development, so I'd say your gypsies are in the range of 2 - 3 months old in those pics. Here's a shot of my roo at 2.5 months .. comparable to yours, I'd say:

I got all sorts of pics of Key West chickens when I was there. I think it's kind of cool how they're all over the tourist district. They run through the shops and everything. There's signs up all over the place telling people not to feed them, but we had a few fries "accidentally" fall under the table.

I would guess that different lines would develop at somewhat different rates, but 4-5 mos. was about right as he has been crowing for about 3 weeks and started breeding the girls

I think Key West is happy to get rid of them LOL.. I agree they are beautiful and have a wonderful history, but the residents either love or hate them as they have taken over..
How cool they are starting to get a popularity and other flocks are getting formed.. Just think if a huricane or something would wipe out the birds on Key West.. then what?
Nice they are getting around.
