We currently have a 6 week old Pekin duck that we hatched. My mom, a sixth grade teacher, was hatching them in her classroom. We've also hatched Chickens for the past few years (they go back to the farm or home with lucky kids when they get too big) but this was the first year she had tried duck eggs. Out of the 24 or so eggs we had only the one hatched, needless to say being the only duckling everyone (me especially) got very attached to him and he is now a permanent member of our family. He lives at the school for the most part and we also come in several times on weekends to check up on him and clean up him and his pen.
I've been using BYC since the day he hatched to learn everything I can about keeping ducks (and to convince my mom that people actually do keep ducks as indoor pets). This is my "Hello", I'll probally be asking plenty of questions soon!

Welcome to BYC.
What is the long-term plan for your duck friend? While it is great that you are able to go in on weekends to care for the little guy, it really would be best to source another duckling that can be a companion to him at the times that there is no human there to be his flockmate.
