My new pet snake *PICS*

Not to worry I'm always careful plus the speed limit through the area was rather low. It still "could" happen though.

I'm excited because this afternoon we will be getting Bubba out for a new photo shoot on him.

I never could get the photo of the spitting cobra enlarged. I know there has to be a way to do it but I'm still so new to computors I haven't figured it out. The pic is a 4x6 print I copied through my copier and added to my computor. Does anyone think if I added the pic "as is" they can copy the print and enlarge it to add to the thread. Just curious and I don't really know if it would work or not.
HUMMMMMMMMMM

Go to www.irfanview.net and download the free photo editing program to your computer and try running the pic through the program. If the pic was taken on a high mp camera it might be sucessfully enlarged.

Thanks for the info. I have two photo editing programs on my computor but I couldn't figure out how to enlarge the photo. I know there has to be a way. The photo I was trying to enlarge was taken with a disposable camera. I will try the site and see, maybe try again on my system. I know it can be done but IDK how.

Sara,
Can I send my 12 year old Grand Daughter to you?
This is a child who since age 2 can not live in a house with out a snake.
She litterally panics and will go out and hunt down a wild one if she doesnt have a domestic.

I have a funny story, dont want to hyjack but its too cute not to share.

She was 2 years old and grand pa was mowing the lawn and accidently hit a garden snake. well Cassi wanted the snake and grandpa said no, its dead there is nothing you can do for it, she cried a little but went in to bed like a good kid.

The next morning she woke me up fussing around in the bed, wiggling and squiggling, finally I got up and made her come out with me so she wouldnt wake up Pa.
Well she came out and started cryinng, asked whats wrong and she proclaims , " I want my snake" , well said snake is dead and Pa threw it in the bushes, no no she says I have the snake, ya right, all this before coffee mind you, wasnt believing her, finally after so much fussing for the snake and her insisting it was in my room, I said FINE! show me where this snake is.
well we go into the bed room and Pa is still asleep so I said to her Where is this darned snake?
In the Bed, I lok see no snake, so again I ask "where is the snake"
( I am still n ot believing her at this point), She looks right at me and says Under Pas shoulder, he is laying on it .
Well poor Pa upon hearing this JUMPS out of bed doing 90 miles an hour and low and behold there coiled up perfectly was the dead snake.

I asked her how she got outside and found that snake, she shows me the broom near the door which she used to get to the chain lock.
My heart about sank in my chest, a 3 year old outside at day break alone, hunting down a derned snake, while living on a highway ! not impressed, changed locks.

Poor GrandPa, he isnt afraid of snakes, but to wake up with one under your shoulder before coffee was a bit too much for him.
He sent me out that day and told me to buy her a corn snake to keep her inside. and looked at her very sternly and said NO MORE going outside for snakes you will have your own inside from here out.

Every year she will go oout and find the baby garden snakes, pine snakes and what ever else she can find that is a snake.

Here is a pic I took yesterday of Snakeman and Bubba. As you can see in the pic Snakeman is using a snake hook. That is because Bubba was in a frisky mood, unpredictable so he wasn't gonna take any chances.

This next pic is of Bubbas rattlers. You can't tell from the pic the damage that had been done to him. I couldn't get in there as close as I had wanted to get the pic because he was in a ill mood. I sure don't want to get bit. Also he just shedded and all the skin didn't peel back over his rattlers. If Bubba had been in a better mood yesterday we would have removed that for him.

You can tell by the lenght of the rattlers that they have been broken. A snake the size of Bubba should have 15 or 20 rattlers. When Bubba rattles he sounds like a baby rattle snake. We have run up on this before while out snake hunting. We heard what we thought was a baby snake but when we found the snake it was huge and the rattlers had been broken off pretty short.

So guys if you are ever out there and hear what sounds like its a baby rattler just remember Bubba. It could be a big snake.

I have two more different types of rattle snakes that I will be taking pics of either today or tomorrow. Hope you guys are enjoying the thread. I have more storys of our adventure in store.
HUMMMMMM which one should I tell you guys about next?

Wow Gypsy, of course we would take her. That is an amazing story. At her age now she would be able to tell the difference between venomous and not. Thats the danger with small children. They might pick up a venomous snake and get bit. We always teach the smaller children to go and get an adult if they see a snake and the bigger kids we teach them how to tell if they are venomous are not. We also tell the older kids to not try and catch the snake either. It always amazes me as to how much these kids pay attension to what we say. Sometimes we may run into a kid that saw one of our shows or have been to the house months later and I can ask them questions about the snakes and they will still remember.

All kids love Snakeman, he has the long beard but he takes the time to talk with the kids. Answer any question they may have. He is alway eager to plant that seed that we don't need to kill snakes just because you may be afraid of them.

If you sent Cassi, Snakeman would probably have her catching venomous snakes.

He makes snake hooks all the time and is always giving them to people after they have had lessons on how to catch one and not get bit. We now have people that he has taught bringing us snakes they have caught. That is pretty awesome. Cassie would have a ball here.

Do you think she would be interested in one of the items I offered earlier in the thread? If so I will put her on the list. It might be awhile before I get the items but I know Snakeman would love for her to have one.

Thanks for sharing such a cute story, Snakeman loved it to.

I just love the size of Bubba, he is stunning on the end of someone elses arm.
After growing up in Florida I have a healthy respct for Rattlers, not afraid of them per say but very very respectful.
They come in out of the swamps just likr the mean cotton mouths ech. I swear a cotton mouth is the only snake that will chase you down just to bite.

Cassi would love a Rattle shed should one come available. She is totally facinated with them.
I had a pair of rattles that had been made into hook ear rings many years ago and she ran acrossed them one day.
naturally she snagged them and wears them with pride.( even though I wont let her wear them to school, too many people get weirded out up here hearing them).

Timber rattlers are making a very slow come back here in NH. I am thrilled, even though I dont want them in my coop, I would love to have them come back in numbers that sustain them here.

Tell Snake Man Cassi would likely beat him out of the truck if she spotted one before he did. lol this kid loves snakes and no matter the venome or not.
This kid can spot a snake from 1000 ft, I swear sometimes she actually smells them before seeing them.

We had a beautiful Brown Water snake come to visit our gold fish pond a few years ago. I took a picture and took the photo to Game and Wild Life. they did a definate ID for me,( people were claiming water moccosin
roll.png
and wanted me to kill it, UM NO! I know those snakes and even though it mimicks the pattern and color I knew it imediately for what it was.
anywho, game and wild life came down, captured it, did the measuring, weight, cant remember the exact grams but it equaled almost 6 lbs.
They took a scale for genetics, released it back under my pond and asked if I could please keep an eye and send in reports for them.
Sexed it : female Yeahhhh more babies.
They havent seen a water snake in the area that large nor that healthy for many years. ( we run a bait shop and all excess bait is stored in the water pond for future sale and I dont mind sharing lol)

Every year since, Cassi gets out there and sits just waiting for it to come back for a visit. we have seen it a few times over the past 2 years, I am waiting for a report that its back .
She is watching, but so far they keep missing each other.
She even got to run her fingers down its scales one time which thrilled her to pieces. for a water snake it is amazingly calm for her. didnt even bother to move away when she touched it.
but then again she has an amazing knack with all animals.
well with the exception of one hatefull Pine Snake LOL.( not know for being calm and even tempered).
It bit her and she spins it around to face her and says, " You Dork, you bit me!.
lau.gif
She is something else I tell ya.

She was so upset when I had to rehome my 13 lb Red Tail Boa, I couldnt handle her like she needed handling. I had just thrashed my shoulder and with out constant handling at that size they get grouchy. She went into a reputable breeding program. I get updates yearly as to how she is doing.
let me see if I can find her picture. she was stunning..

not the best picture but I wanted to show the depth of her.

Gypsy, nice story there. As far as Cassi beating Snakeman out of the truck would be a close race. Now Snakeman is real laid back and he never gets in a hurry about anything. I'm just the opposite, I'm always moving fast but when there is a snake to be caught he moves to high gear. Hes like don't get in my way and if you did you would probably get knocked down. lol If he spots one its not gonna get away.

I remember one day we spotted a rattler crossing the road. That day Snakeman was wearing a brand new shirt I had bought for him. He was looking rather spiffy for a ned neck hillbilly from good old Muscadine. I was driving and when I got the truck stopped he jumps out right as the snake was going into a thicket full of briars and everything else you could imagine. Well about 10 minutes or so later he returns. I couldn't see him once he had gotton so far into the thicket, only hear him. When he finally climbed out through the thicket he had the snake and the amazing thing was he had went in bare handed, no snake hook or anything.

If the snake is getting away he will grab the snakes tail and pull it closer and he will grab a stick or anything else that happens to be close by to make the catch. I have seen him catch hundreds of snakes and its still amazing for me to watch. Well he got his snake that day but the brand new shirt he was wearing was ripped to shreads. He also had scratches all over from the briars.

Years ago I used to get nervous with him handling these snakes but over the years he has proved himself to me that he knows what he is doing. I don't get nervous anymore.

That is amazing about your brown snake. A couple years back we caught a copperhead that missed the states record for lenght by one inch. That would of been awesome.

Does Cassi have a snake hook to use?

With my red tail boa that lived 22 years, one day we were feeding her and the rat was already in the aquarium. My mother stuck her hand down inside the aquarium which is a big no no with a snake that big and powerful plus ready to eat. The snake mistook her hand as the rat, struck and coiled around her hand. We had a terrible time trying to get the snake to release her hand. Running the snakes head under water will work most of the time. Anyway after we freed her hand the snake had broke her hand and she had to get a cast put on. OOCH

And you are right, if boas and pythons are not handled all the time they will become wild and are dangerous. Man they are strong. The muscles they have are unreal.

Its raining today so I don't have any new pics to post but I have a new humorous story to tell.

A couple years back there was a man that was starting up a business called Critter Control. He had went around to all the local stores and left business cards trying to drum up business. Well the first thing he listed on the card was snake removals. Snakeman called the man and they talked awhile. Snakeman was interested in any venomous snakes he might catch. The man said he would give us a call if he happened to remove any.

Well about a week or so went by and the man called. He said he was on a job about an hour and a half from us and there was a snake lying across this woman in her late 60s window sill. He bascially let us know he was afraid to try and catch it because he thought it was a rattler.

The idea of making the long drive didn't apeal to us but we agreed to come because we didn't want to mess up the deal Snakeman and him had already made about getting other snakes. We were actually excited about the call because we felt like it must of been a rattler since this man who put snake removal first on his business card must know its a rattler, right.

We were in contact with him during the drive and the snake was still chilling on the window sill. When we got there we both grabbed our snake hooks and bucket and jumped out of the truck. Standing on the side of the house was a rather large man and then the older woman. They were just standing there staring at the window. lol

It was like a race between Snakeman and myself to see which one of us could get to the site first. When we made the corner all you could hear was our equipment hitting the ground. lol Snakeman walked over to the window and picked the snake up, it was a large rat snake. He then handed the snake to me. lol

We ended up going to several other jobs for this man. I finally suggested that he change his business card and put snake removal towards the bottom of the card in very small letters.
gig.gif

I just wonder what this older woman was thinking for all the time it took us to get there and then to find out the snake was harmless. She got my number that day and every year we do one or two jobs for her. I don't like to travel that far but this woman is such a sweety I will alway go and help her out.

Critter Control went out of business, I wonder why?

We are going on a snake catch and removal job today. Its a hot call, what we call a good call because we already know the snake is venomous. Two days ago this womans dog got bit on the belly. They did not see the dog get bit but found fang marks and the area where the dog got bit turned black.

They did not take the dog to the vet. WHY?????
idunno.gif
Anyway the dog lived a day. There is a small child that lives there so I'm hoping we can find the snake. This poor woman was wanting me to tell her that the snake moved out of the area so I had to give her the facts. We will be leaving out here in a couple of hours. Its to hot right now for the snake to be out raoming so that is why we are waiting.

Wish us luck.

Maybe I will have a new one to photograph tonight. I still have two more different types of rattlers to photograph but have been under the weather. I will be posting those soon.
