My new pet snake *PICS*

Oh my!!!! That is so sweet of you!!!! Thank you!!! I just read that to my son and he is squealing and bouncing up and down. He would absolutely love that!!! His bedroom is decorated with skulls, all the sheds from his two Ball Pythons, and any not so gross dead stuff he can get (large insects, his now deceased scorpion, etc) so it would be a perfect (and much loved) addition!!!

I can also offer the shedded skins off any of my other snakes too. Just any one he would be interested in. I want tell what all else I have yet, well not until I get some pics posted anyway. Snakeman does this for lots of kids. I can also offer something else I bet your son would love listening to you describe of his room. Shedded fangs from the different snakes. We have almost as many adults collect these from us as we do kids. Run that idea by him. I'll let you know what we collect first and send it on its way to yall.

That is such an awesome offer. I bet her son will love them. I save all of the sheds I get.

I worked for several years at the SC Aquarium as an educator. We never handled venomous snakes, of course, but I've definitely made it my mission in life to convince people that snakes are not demons out to eat you alive! Two months ago I went on a "swamp stomp" with one of my best friends. We went to a local blackwater swamp and took a guided tour to their largest cypress tree. You have to wade through waist-deep water to get there. It was AWESOME! I invited all my other friends, and most of them said, "you're going INTO the water? With the snakes and gators? No thanks!" I'll admit I was a little leary of the ubiquitous cottonmouths we have in the swamps here, but I knew it was still going to be too cold to encounter one. The cold water ended up freaking me out a lot more than the wildlife, and the only injuries I sustained were from the stupid blackberry vines that I couldn't see under the water (recent rains flooded even high areas). So yes, I did come out a little scratched up, but bite-free!

Here's me having fun in the swamp:

Didn't find any herps, but I'm a nut for spiders. Here's a nice lycosidae, definitely one of my favorites.

I haven't gone herping in a long time, but the weather is just right, I might have to take a few walks and see what I can find (and bring the camera!).

Through the years we now have people that used to kill every snake they saw now catching them and bringing them to us. Once people understand that a snake it not going to attack for no reason there whole thinking changes. There strick and bite is for defence and if the dont feel threatned they are not going to bite you.

We get a snake removal call atleast once a week that sounds like this.

Ahhhhhh its a six foot rattle snake in my house and you gotta get it out.

Of course once we get there and find the snake it is usually a 3 or so foot long rat or king snake.

I think spiders are way cool but I do not want them crawling on me. I will go out of my way to not harm one. I look at it like this, snakes, spiders and stuff are just out there in the world trying to make it like everybody else.

Snakeman and myself decided we are both to tired tonight to photograph the next snake I had planned. Being sleepy and handling a venomous snake do not mix so we will get it in the morning when we are more rested.

I am excited about my next choice. I know you guys will love it.

If anyone else would be interested in a shed or a fang just let me know. I would be happy to hook you up.

Sure I will get you a fang. I don't know when it will be, have to wait until one of them sheds one. I'll try and get you one from the puff adder unless you would like one from another snake I have. Remember I still have more snakes to photograph and post. I got more suprise snakes up my sleve. lol

The next snake I'm going to show, we got it in 1999. In the snake world around here you don't use money to buy snakes, you make trades with snakes. I can't even remember now what we traded to get this next one anymore.

The man we traded with is Snakemans cousin who is a preacher, preacher from a snake handling church. O.K. northerners, don't laugh at us. Some people in the south DO handle snakes in church.

Its not something that Snakeman or myself beleive in but we have been around it a good bit.

We got a snake call this morning from a woman about a mile from here. She said she was watching a snake that had bowed up and flared its neck out at her dog. She also said she thought it might be a cobra.

Instead of taking the time to explain on the phone that we don't have cobras here we took off to catch the snake. Upon arriving at her home she was following the snake around her yard with a shot gun in her arms.

Well this is red neck Alabama

It turned out to be a rat snake. Once we explained why the snake was flaring its neck, just defending itself against her dog and showing her the snake couldn't hurt her if it did bite her she said it could stay. We also explained to her all the benefits of the snake being there. Rodent control and also they will eat other snakes like rattlers or copperheads.

Educating one pearson at a time. Hey at least I will have an amusing thought in my head today. An older, grandmotherly type woman carrying this shotgun that would have probably knocked her on her bum if she had of taken a shot.

Snake season is never boring and I have been able to meet some amazing people along the way.
