Actually my dog chased him into the woods. Our dog doesn't mind the hens so we decided to try a rooster. Second morning having him and now he's gone. I would think he doesn't know his home yet. I'm freaking heartbroken. It's raining and I feel so bad for him. Any advice on ways to lure him out?? We've been searching all day in the rain.

Has he turned up yet? If he's not lost to a predator, try putting a lantern out by the coop at dusk, the light may draw him back to the coop if he's still hanging around near by. If he does turn up, I would confine him to the coop area for a week or two at least so he accepts it as home. You can try putting some feed or treats near the edge of the woods where he went to try to draw him out. And keep the dog away from the area. Hope you are able to find him.

He has not come back. I also haven't heard him crowing. If he was to come back I'd bring him back to his original home. I wouldn't trust the dogs around him and I can't keep chickens locked up forever. The dogs have zero problem with the hens. Just the rooster. I brought a hen out there and made some noise with her. Left tomatoes and feed by the wood line. Left the motion light on the coop switched to on the whole night. I just feel like a jerk. I should've just left everything the way it was.

I'm not sure. I like to think so. He'd be safe there. I already brought him back to his original home. He was SO happy to see his old flock. He jumped out of my arms and ran to them. The lady said she's not going to give him up now. It was a sign!

Do you think he was hiding in the barn the whole time?
