My new satinettes.

Hi everyone,

I bought a pair of satinettes at the winston show yeasterday and had a few questions.
#1 Are they show quality?
#2 Since they have short beaks will they feed their babies?
#3 What color are they? The guy said they were silver tailed but someone else said they were blue.
#4 any thing else i should no?

Yes, they can feed their young just fine

They are Old Style Satinettes, which can. "Modern style" cannot. They are both blue bars, or "Bluettes" (that is the color class they would be in at a show). It looks like only one has a spot tail (white spot in the middle of the tail feathers), is that right? The first picture isn't show quality, but the other bird appears to be better colored, except for the random white flights.

The guy i bought them from said the hen was colored better than the cock. What is old style and morden? I bought them for ten bucks. Was that a good deal? Were can I get more info about the breed?

The modern ones are so short faced that they need pumpers (foster parents) or to be hand fed.

They hatched a baby two weeks ago!

It is already geting feathers.

Today they laid another egg in the corner of the pen and not in the nest box. Why? The baby is walking in and out of the nest box.

Perhaps momma was chased off the nest when she was fixing to lay. Or maybe the babies are taking up too much space in the bowl
