My Newest Challenge. (Warning, Some slightly graphic pics)

Awww poor lil thing!! You have a great heart (and a nice touch).

I personally like the name Zha Zha (as in Gabor). I have no idea why...but she looks like a Zha Zha to me.

Thank goodness you and your mom drove by and found her; best of luck with her healing, I think you've done a great job so far! Please keep us posted.

Good luck with her! I would give her antibiotics...just in case. Or at least give her a boost like polyvisol (without iron supplements) in her waterer. A nice calm environment and lots of love! Which I'm sure you are doing. Wash her wounds with a saline solution and check for infection. Do you bandage her? Maybe later on you can put some neospirin ointment on the wound for healing, after the threat of infection is over.

She's a lovely girl. So cute with her eyes closed...resting...aww..

Wow! this should be interesting! Subscribing to this thread.

I had a ZAZA I won't name another that. I like the name Phoebe. It just seems to suit her. I think she will pull through and be a strong hen. You have done good. Gloria Jean

We bandaged her foot the first day, but we don't now. Its basically scabbed over already, which really surprised me. When we took the duck to the vet, her said that if the wound isn't bad enough for stiches, triple antibiotic ointment should help it heal up just fine. Its doing great. If it starts looking bad again I will betadine it though.

So what antibiotic should I give her and/or what does Polyvisol do?

If her wound is healing up pretty well with what you are doing, then just keep that up for now with daily check ups. Keep her wound clean and rebandage it. I would just watch her and how she does with her foot. at least check it every day to see if there is infection. Let her rest.

Polyvisol (without the iron) is a children's vitamin supplement that will help her be strong in case she doesn't eat properly. If you can give her added goodies like organic yogurt with some oatmeal as a food/treat. And maybe a favourite fruit too.

Good luck with her.

Thanks, all of you, for the encoragement. I love doing things like this, and always take in sick, hurt, abandoned, and orphaned animals. My house is basically a handicapp farm, and I am going to try my best to become a veterinarian after I graduate next spring. Its a lot of college, but well worth it to me.
