In case you are wondering, this all came from a farm machinery dealer. They have great wood boxes, pallets, lumber etc. If you live in or near a rural area, see if you can find a dealer that will let you look through their pile.

I get more excited seeing a coop made out of pallets and recycled wood rather than someone who went to Lowe's or Home Depot and spent money on lumber. It's such a thrill to see how people hustle to find free stuff. Please post all of your freebies and "scores". I love it!!!

We have a John Deere business down the road and they have supplied me with tons of stuff over the years.

Can't wait to see that brooder box.

Yes he is a long haired apple head Chihuahua and he wouldn't stay out of the pictures we have new chicks growing out in the coop and he was checking on them and making sure that nothing could get in.

Robin I would love to he can be a pain he wants to be in my lap all the time but I can't he stays I got him when his owner went to boot camp for national guard as soon he get an apt that allows pets Hippie will go back to him. (maybe since I really love this little guy)

Thanks everyone for the nice comments I did feel great using all those left over things and saved them from the dump. We do have a tractor store here I might just go see what I can score for DH to build the grand daughters a play house so they will stop trying to use my coop as a play house.
I can't wait to get the run done so we can move our flock into it I will be adding the roost. We are going be putting board around the inside of the pen like to make a raised bed then we are putting down 6-8 inches of sand and then in one corner I am building grass boxes for them that will have chicken prairie grass mix with chicken wire on top so they can scratch it all out. I will post pictures once all of that is done.​

That's funny that you want to build a playhouse for the gr.kids because they want to use the coop as one. Turn about is fair play, so many people on here are using playhouses as coops. What has the world come to - lol.

We are in the process of making a coop with some pallet boards. We bought a few things from the lumber yard and got some great deals at the cull bin. It's been challenging, but we're trying. I suspect we saved quite a bit of money by using the pallets. Luckily I got a few that weren't impossible to break apart. I even managed to get some pallets that were 8 feet long and have used the 8 foot boards in the framing instead of store bought 2x4s.

IMHO they are better suited for other projects (worm bin, potting bench, bench, planter, etc.).

The free pallets are cool, but they do come at a price. They can be tough to break apart, challenging to work with (most boards are about 2.5 feet long). Nonetheless, it's coming along fairly well.
