My Peachicks Of 2013 **Will Have Lots Of Pics**

Four yellow asses
When I came back tonight I watched what my 2 year old Imperator hen is doing with their four chicks. After only 9 days they are on the perch at about 2m under the hen and they need to fly directly onto the perch.
It is the only 2 year old imperator hen which has hatched reliable. As the young rooster has not yet fertilized, all their eggs were infertile and I decided to give her eggs from my Muticus. This picture shows that natural breeding can’t be replaced by anything. The picture shows that the hen has earned its name chef.

Congratulations on the yellow butts, lol.

This hatch has given me my first Taupes,,one of which hatched today and appears to be all yellow,so his mom has to be Pipi,my black shoulder silver pied hen, tonight another Taupe has pipped but from what I can see so far it has a lot of darker pigment,so it must be 100% Taupe and hopefully by tomorrow eve it too will be out and fluffy. I've also hatched some very dark Opal chicks this time, meaning their moms was either the pure Opal or the Opal Pied hen that are just 2 years old this summer. I also hatched 2 purples that seems to have either a 100% purple mom,or the purple pied as their mom. Also, the first Thangette is on the planet for 2013 and it appears to be a 100% white chick.

Frenchy what does the Taupe peacock look like? If you bred it to a BSSP you will not get BS nor will you get Taupe. You will get an IB split BS split Taupe split SP if I am correct with the genetics. You might have to ask Brad why you got a yellow chick from that pairing? Why not posting pictures?

Yoda you are almost correct with genetics. Spalding is a hybrid, a cross between two different species,( not between different colored genes within the same species) with varying percent of green blood based on breeding practices. The above pairing produces spalding chicks (low percent green blood) split to Taupe as well as Blackshoulder.

Well, the second peachick did not make it but it was very dark in feather color. The other peachick looks like your typical run of the mill b/s yellow peachick,,I'm still hoping to get 3-4 more Taupe chicks out and alive this year.I've got plenty of eggs incubating but so far maybe only 35-40% has been fertile. The male was just 2 years old this spring so I was not expecting much but the Taupe hen was 3 and my bssp hen is 6 years old and by far my heaviest laying hen in the flock. The darker peachick had pipped but made no progress for 24 hrs,so I helped it.
There was a little blood about halfway down on the membrane so I stopped and put the chick back in the bator butt side down.It started to try and get out of the egg and for some reason within 30 seconds after it struggled it stopped moving. There was still blood in the lower membrane and it should have 'taken maybe another day to hatch on it's own but it barely peeped when it was in the eggshell. It seeme dvery weak and out of pep. It was a smaller sized egg too, possibly in the lower 70's gram weight range which would be proof too it was from the 100% Taupe hen.PiPi,,my bssp hen lays huge eggs and I can tell the diffrence. I did get some real nice Opals in this group,,6 all together and only 1 was a OPAL B/S so I know my 2 year olds are finally getting in the team spirit.

70 grams before incubation? Wow, that is very light, isn't it? Not sure, but I think my smallest was around 90 grams, that one didn't make it either. That chick weighed about 55 grams at hatch time.

Sorry for your loss.
