i feed my duck grass (is that ok?) he likes it but when i let it out of the cage it i thought it was eating grass but when i look closer it was eating some MUD!?! why doesnt it eat grass whats wrong with him? is that normal?

Eating mud seems to be like a delicacy to them, let it go at it as it will get something out of the effort.

Our ducks are not much of grass eaters, they do poke around in the grass, however they seem to be looking for slugs and bugs.

Turn it loose to free range for a while, and let it do what comes natural.

Good luck

It is foraging. Its sifting or "Dabbling" in the mud dirt and grass to get little bugs and other goodies

I think of geese as the grass eaters. Ducks need different food. My ducks forage for worms, grubs, slugs and bugs, and they like some grains and seeds, they love lettuce and leafy greens, especially floating in water.

Aside from grass what do you feed your duck?

And ditto, the dirt "eating" is the duck looking for the food it really needs.

Ducks dabble. It's just what they do. They are basically filter feeders and they are sifting edible things out of that mud.

My ducks will eat grass and they like to strip the seed heads off of grass. But they also dabble in every tiny bit of mud they can find. If there is no mud, they will spill their water to make mud.

The ducks like broad leaf plants better than they like grass.
