Why dont you try to persuade them to you keep one tom. tell them the benefits and show them all the good things that come with raising a tom. also prove to them that toms arent as loud as most peple say.

Yes, thank you! If nothing else I'd try just free ranging the turkey first without the hens to see what old mutt will do. He won't see her often so maybe he'd keep her out when he did see her.

What breed is the little dog? Some dogs aren't that large, but were bred to kill some pretty tough animals. They have no problem trying to take down a larger opponent, even when it isn't the smart thing to do. Other dog breeds the same size can be kind of wimpy.

I am thinking of getting more guineas this year. I lost all of mine last year to owls and hawks. Do you think a turkey would get along with guineas?

The little dog is a mutt but pretty sure she has some terrier in her. I've seen her terrorize rabbits. As soon as she catches one she shakes it and runs away with it. Don't know if she eats them but she loves the kill. I'm going to look into getting a turkey. She's no dumb dog, she's learned to steer clear from me already. She wouldn't mess with a big tom. Too bad I didn't live closer to Victors siblings!

A friend on mine has turkeys, guineas, peacocks, ducks and chickens. I believe the guineas could get away from a turkey if it was not in an enclosed pen. I have turkey, ducks and chickens all together and everyone does fine.
