My Pet Chicken Pictures

Well thank god because I never got chicks from a hatchery b4. Got my current 12 from local breeders and I'm reading some horror stories. I have already called the PO which is a 24 hr distribution center telling them to expect them

Not saying something bad can't happen. And there is a greater risk w more people involved. But I wouldn't panic....

i know its a gamble really, i dont think its the hatchery tho, i really think its the delivery system. The PO is so unreliable nowadays

I just got my order of 15 chicks yesterday from MPC and 14 were dead :(  The lone survivor is a silkie.  MPC said they would re-ship but I can't go through that again and am going to a local chicken farmer today to get my silkie a couple of friends.

I pray that your order is ok.  I am really mad at them (well the hatchery they got them from in Ohio), they definitely didn't treat my chicks as pets!

Here's my letter to them...
~~I called earlier today when we received our chick order. All except for 1 (the silkie) were dead after arriving to my post office in less than 24 hours. I am sending this email to hopefully prevent this from happening to other chicks and customers. The heating pad (large hand warmer) was loose in the box, on top of 3 chicks. It was still warm. Those hand warmers may be soft and pliable when first used but as the cool they harden like a rock. I'm assuming the 8 oz. hand warmer became a projectile stone that killed all the chicks. Also, when I received my chicks only 1 air hole was open on all 4 sides. 2 of the 4 air holes on top of the box were partially covered by the shipping stickers, they other 2 on top were completely covered. I think this really could have been prevented with securing the hand warmer under the bedding as well as opening up most of the air holes? Of course I am a first time chicken owner so I may be totally wrong. Please let the hatchery in Ohio know what they did wrong so they will not kill more chicks. The person who packed my chicks is Sarah H. I have included photo's for you. The 2 holes on each side of the box were punched out by me when I received the chicks. Also, thank you for refunding my money because I cannot imagine going through this again. The excitement, anticipation, shock and disappointment. Thank you for your website offering so much information about how to keep chickens as pets.

That is terrible sorry to here that don't blame you for not wanting to go through that again, see I think part of the problem is that there a middle man not a hatchery so there not really involved in the packing.I know this because mpc is in Ct where I live,so basically they just take orders for actual hatcherys.

I just wanted to follow up with my post. I received a nice email yesterday from MPC....

~~Hi there, Again, please accept our condolences. I see that you spoke with the phone "peeps" and have taken care of your Loss Report. Again, we are so sorry to hear of this. We will definitely share your information and photos and take steps to prevent this in the future. Please feel free to contact My Pet Chicken, again.

We were so lucky to find an ad on craigslist in my area and be in contact with a local chicken farmer/raiser, Jim's Roost. We went yesterday and picked up a 2 week old EE and a 1 week old Blue Cochin. So we are all set since our coop is a starter kit. The little Silkie seems to have perked up with her new friends! Also, by meeting Jim, we have a wonderful local resource of information and he sells H & H feed that is excellent quality for when our chicks get older.

I just had to share the silver lining!

I also had very good experience when I had a loss w MPC. It doesn't make you feel better at the time but it was nice to have a hassle free refund.

The egg "art" was from a local craft festival. I wish I could claim credit!!!!

Congrats on the new additions!!!!

I recently order chick - due the week of April 28th - I cant wait and am a little nervous as I have heard good and bad about MPC.

I ordered 2 Buff Orpingtons; 2 Red Stars;2 Wyandottes and 6 assorted feathered legged Bantams

I am curious about how MPC works if they are not a hatchery. If they are getting the chicks sent from a hatchery like Meyers how are they getting them sexed?
