my pet chicken reviews

Pics
Okay now you all are starting to freak me out. I've never ordered live chicks before so this is all new to me. I have 17 ordered (eight for a friend and nine for me) and they are to ship this week... the 11th. So now I'm sitting here anxious since Oklahoma can't decide if it will be warm or cold, rainy or dry, windy or calm. LOL

Edited to add --- How do I tell which chicks are which? We have ordered a mixture of breeds. Thank you!

It's going to depend on what you ordered and in what quantities. As for me, we had 7 GLW, 6 BO, 2 SS, 1 SF, 1 PR, 1 SLW, 1 SCM, 1 BR, 1 BA and 1 GOLDEN BUFF. The GLW, PR, SLW, SCM, BR, and BA were dark and the rest light. I could tell the SF because she was light like the BO, but was the only one that had feathered legs. The GB was the only red chick. The SS were the only two of a kind. BR was black with a dot on her head. SCM was like the BR, but with a messier light spot on her head. TheSLW was marked like the GLW, but a gray silver instead of black brown gold. BA had a solid black head with yellow markings. And the PR was a maroon red, almost like the GLW, but had a darker beak and not the chipmunk marked face. If you are getting a lot of white or buff yellow chicks, might need to look at skin color, comb shape, feathered legs, puff cheeks, crests, etc.

Are to ship? When? Just curious.

The week of the 11th. So I guess they will be here sometime between now and Saturday.

As for figuring out the who's is who's, that depends a LOT on what breeds you bought. Could be fun!

2 - Silver Laced Wyandottes
2 - Golden Buffs (Red Star)
1 - Australorp
8 - White Leghorns

Ok, I'll be nice.
Silvers will be black with possible little white marks on the cheeks and grey chests and yellow legs and feet.(check my pics and look at Spice)
Australorps will be dark black with white chests and grey(ish) legs
Golden buffs should be red
Eggers should have puffy cheeks
Someone else needs to jump in on the leghorns. I would assume they are little yellow puff balls but I am just guessing.

While I don't know what their Easter Eggers look like, It shoul be very easy to distinguish those breeds from each other ime. My "Easter Eggers" run the complete gambit of colors, some have muffs and beards and some are clean faced, etc. but they all have green legs. I'll get some pics of mine after dinner

I believe your correct on the leg horns. Yellow/white puffs with yellow legs? I was just comparing my australorp and SLW and they look really distinctly different. My "Golden Buff" is definitely not yellow,

Thanks for the clarification on the eggers!!! I didn't know their's varied that much.

btw-if anyone is planning (or already are) using Manna Pro Medicated Chick Starter you need to check their website. There is a recall on some of their 25 lb bags. Serious issue with too much salt. That can kill chicks.

Maybe I should clarify that I didn't get EE from MPC. I have had 13 from different sources and the one thing they all had in common was their green legs. I'm not sure what MPC EE look like. Their pic of the regular EE had green legs, but not the "Blue Easter Egger."
