my pet chicken reviews

@Jujubara
 -- we are in a similar region! How long did it take to get your chicks? Mine are born tomorrow, but haven't been able to figure out if I should expect them Thursday or Friday? And if it will be in the morning or evening post? Hope everyone's chickies are doing well

Ours were shipped on Monday and the PO called us around 1 something Tuesday. Our PO is really good and calls right away. I think once last year we received some on Wednesday after being shipped on Monday, but they came in pretty early in the am.

Or like in my case where the tracking said they were delivered but they were still actually 6 hours away sitting on the loading platform in Casper Wyoming when it was 17 degrees below zero.  Tracking doesn't mean much, I guess.

Yes! That was most unfortunate and saddened me

I'm going crazy waiting for the email that mine have shipped! It's almost 4pm.... Gah!

ETA: they shipped! Woohoo!

Well, both of my little Silver Spangled Hamburgs are looking kinda rough. I'll keep the Nutri-drench going, keep them warm, and see if I have any more magic chick ideas stored anywhere. <sigh>

Awww, just saw this post. I rave about Nutri-drench so much they should give me stock in their company! I would never have chicks, or grown hens for that matter, without it in my first aid kit. I just recently discovered there are different formulas of it too. Anyway, I've had it pull thru more than one less than thriving chick and help more than one struggling roo and hen.

and a little prayer for your Spangles

Thank you. Sadly one of the little Hamburgs died, and despite doing everything I can, I think the other will follow shortly. Right now she's in the incubator following her last dose of Nutri-drench and a little water but it's getting harder and harder to get either into her. I have my Silkie eggs in the Brinsea, and the plan was to move them to the hatcher as they pipped. But right now this little girl has commandeered the hatcher and as long as she keeps fighting she'll have it for however long it takes. The eggs will just have to hatch in the smaller bator.

Guess I'll notify MPC tomorrow. I should know if she'll survive by then. These two chicks were really tiny compared to the others, and I guess I didn't take that into account when I ordered or I'd have chosen a breed closer in size to the rest of them. Lesson learned, the hard and painful way and at these babies' expense.

The others are in the indoor brooder and doing fantastic. Active, eating, drinking, in and out from under MHP, and they seem pretty doggone content. If this little girl makes it, she'll stay indoors until I am 100% confident that she's fully recovered. The White Cochins are adorable, and Katie is in love.

That's unfortunate, you got me worried about my order next week, mine includes 6 bantam. We shall see. Glad the rest are doing okay.

My speckled Sussex and salmon Faverolles were especially tiny. Half the size of the others and one SS and sf were half the size of those, so 1/4 the size of the others. So I don't know that it is all about the breeds.
