my pet chicken reviews

Unfortunately it too was dead this morning, so none of the d'uccle made it. It's a bit over the 48 hour guarantee so I guess I won't be able to get a credit for it. I guess no new d'uccle this year only my mixed ones from my own eggs.
I am sorry for your loss. Just enjoyed reading your interview.

I have a shipment coming this week which includes 4 d'Uccle's and a few other bantams,15 total. I am very nervous. I have never yet lost a chick. Only raised 16 so far, so I know the time will come. I also need to learn to be more practical.

Thanks for all your good advice and sharing experiences!

Thank you, you are making me blush.

I am hoping your little ones do okay. Mine arrived very thirsty and drank and drank, than began fading and getting weak despite eating and drinking, I didn't step in soon enough and hoped they would recover, though I'm not sure if they would have.

Have some electrolyte solution in the water to help. I think their reserves were spent after three days in travel, last year I ordered 2 and one died out of the pair. I really want a few more but I think for me the little ones don't travel as well.

I also had three bantam cochin in the order and they are all fine. There was mention of hatching d'uccle eggs next year so I might try that route. Please let me know how yours do, my one from last year is a sassy little girl who tries to peck me if I check under her for eggs. She's also currently broody. I really like her and wanted a few more.

I did get a tracking number, but the USPS has not updated it. I called my PO this morning and the chicks were not in yet, she said it would probably be tomorrow. So one more day to worry about the little guys in transit

I feel for you! That happened the first time, and it's maddening. Also might want to double check if your chicks are going to the local distribution center as opposed to your local PO. For us the difference in miles wasn't a big deal, but for some it can be.

I left word at the distribution center and they were willing to call me the second they got the chicks, day or night. So it was 4am when they called and got right in the car to go get them at some back door on a pea soup foggy morning. =)
