I'm a little confused and hope that someone from MY Pet Chicken can clear this up or anyone who knows. Is My Pet Chicken a actual "hatchery" or just a "middle man" for some hatcheries, Meyer being one? I thought I'd ask because I'm confused. The talk of new colors and breeds make me think it IS a hatchery but I've heard it's NOT a hatchery from several different people. hoping someone can clear that up for me. if they ARE a middle man for the hatcheries I'm not sure I understand. besides smaller order quality what makes them different if they are reselling hatchery stock?? I appreciate your answers. I just want to understand a bit better.

I'm no expert, but I believe they are in fact a "middle man" as you say. I think they use 2 different hatcheries, as far as I've read. I think they work with the hatcheries to make new hybrid chickens and whatnot, that's why you hear talk of new colors and breeds.

Besides the lower order minimum, they seem to have some employees who are exceptionally talented at sexing chicks.

These are just my observations, I could be wrong about anything I've said, lol!

Anyway, hope that helps a little until someone who knows for sure comes along!

Hatching update: candled today for lockdown and about half the eggs developed. I started with 28 and 16 made it to lockdown:

9 Swedish Flower hens - 5 developed, 1 blood ring, 3 clear
5 cream legbars - 4 developed, 1 quitter around day 7-10 I'd guess. Two of the developed had fixed side air cells so not sure how that will go.
4 BBS Marans - 2 developed, 2 clears
10 Black copper Marans - 5 developed (I couldn't see much but 5 had air cells), 3 clears, and 2 I couldn't see anything so I set them just incase, but no air cell.

They can start hatching as early as Thursday, hoping it goes well!

I can't wait to see pictures of the chicks!!!

Doggone it, Alex! I was gonna say that! I was looking for the other thread where you'd posted that information before but - gasp - I've been BLOOIED!

I love MPC!!!

Place an order for my first chicks last June for 16 chicks to be delivered the first week in September. About 2 weeks before the hatch date I received a call from a very nice lady in customer service letting me know 1 of the breeds would unfortunately not be getting hatched on that day. She stayed on the phone and helped me pick out a replacement breed.

2 weeks later my all my chicks were delivered healthy and active. They are now sassy 23 week olds.

I am now anxiously awaiting my second order of chicks to arrive next week!!

Thank you for clearing that up . I'm happy to know you DO have a working relationship with Meyer hatchery as this year I ordered Seven female Barred Rock chicks plus the "meal maker" to donate her eggs to the needy. They have been amazingly personable with Excellent customer Service. They answered All my questions AND replied to my email is a quick timely manner! I've never had better customer service! Their prices were great and offered vaccine for only .50 cents per bird. I was so amazed and happy when I was told that because I got my other birds vaccinated my FREE "meal maker" would be vaccinated as well at NO CHARGE! I'm so impressed! Good to know my pet chicken is working with them! I love that My Pet Chicken takes smaller orders and I've heard ONLY great things about them as well! Next time I order small I will likely use M.P.C. I'm happy to clear this up. My Pet Chicken does have a close working relationship with Meyer Hatchery.
