It's official. If they were coming today I would have gotten the call by now. That means if the USPS notifications are even remotely accurate, the chicks will be spending an extra day in a probably unheated truck in northern WI where the daytime temps are not expected to get above 50, 35 mph winds and temps tonight in the low 20's (or lower). It's going to take an act of God for them all to make it now. If it ends up that way, it will be really disappointing because even tho MPC will surely refund the cost of any lost chicks, I won't be able to replace the dead ones. First, because it would be unlikely they would be available again and even if they were, the $40 cost of shipping for them (again) would just not be doable. If you do the math, depending on the number of losses, I could have driven the 6 hours to Urch's farm in southern Minn and bought show quality for less money. My tracking was like that too. A text woke me at 2:22 am to let me know they were in Nashua, NH which is about an hour and a half away. No more tracking happened after that but my local post office called me at 7:30 am to come pick them up. Frustrated with USPS, happy with MPC though.
I'm in central Wisconsin, most of my chick orders have arrived on Thursday, sometimes Wednesday from MPC. I have gotten mine in the last few years during the day, so don't count it out yet. My post office will make a special trip out to my house to deliver them. Have some electrolytes ready or sugar water to get their blood sugar back up.It's official. Oh, and I just checked the USPS website and of course their "email update" lied. It states on their site they didn't even leave Milwaukee until an hour ago. That means they will definitely sit in Greenbay overnight, those poor chicks are toast. Now I'm feeling guilty, great.
Sorry, MPC, not your fault at all but it's definitely official. Never again.
I use Nutridrench. My post office does NOT do home deliveries on live packages, we get a phone call to come get them NOW, and only gets deliveries from the main post office (after they travel from Greenbay to there) once a day at around 8 a.m. Clearly you live in a much less "rural" area than myself. Thank you for the encouraging word anyway.I'm in central Wisconsin, most of my chick orders have arrived on Thursday, sometimes Wednesday from MPC. We are rural, it's a 20 minute trip from our post office. I guess our post office is more friendly.I use Nutridrench.
