My Pet Chicken

Hey clown, where in Michigan are you? I am in South East Michigan and maybe, just maybe I can help you. I have a friend that was going to give me some cuckoo marans eggs for hatching. I haven't taken him up on his offer since I am just now incubating my first hatch and didn't want to get something like that and then screw them up. Anyway, I was going to contact my friend and see about getting some eggs in the next few weeks. PM me and let me know where you are if you are interested. It might be a long shot, but worth a try anyway.

Well I spoke with someone from My Pet Chicken. I posted something on Facebook about this and they sent me a response to call them. They said typically they charge me 50% off of the total number of eggs and I have to pay shipping. While I do appreciate them possibly working with me that is something I will not do. I spent 168 dollars not including shipping for worthless eggs. Why do I want to pay MORE money and maybe have the same thing happen. Maybe I can get 10-11 chicks instead of 21 eggs. This way I dont have to by more for uncertainty and not to mention wait 21 days for a possible hatch. Im behind al

ready. Anyway they are suppose to talk with the owner and get back to me. If Im expecting a 50% hatch rate am I being unreasonable here? I would like your thoughts. I hate complaining to people or making a fuss but this is just depressing as hell!

Hi Wayne,
Thanks for contacting My Pet Chicken with your concern. We're sorry to hear you didn't see any development on you Golden Marans eggs. As a hatching addict myself, I understand that pain, unfortunately! Have you had a chance to review the troubleshooting guide we have in our free incubation ebook?
http://www.mypetchicken.com/hatching-eggs/chapter-8-hatch-day.aspx
As an experienced hatcher, you must know the blastoderm you're looking for to determine fertility deteriorates once incubation begins, so not finding a blastoderm on eggs that have been incubated does not indicate infertility. We've created a help topic to address concerns on why fertile eggs might not hatch:
http://www.mypetchicken.com/backyard-chickens/chicken-help/I-got-a-terrible-hatch-Does-that-mean-most-of-my-H143.aspx?
Unfortunately, no supplier of fertile eggs can guarantee a hatch rate. Not only do suppliers have no control over the conditions under which the eggs were incubated, or if they were set promptly upon receiving, suppliers also have no control over handling during shipping.

However, we do offer a discounted rate on orders that have very poor hatch rates, but I won't know if your order qualifies for this discount since your hatch is still on-going. You did mention your Polish are developing well and that your Black Copper Marans are showing some development as well, so please let us know how they do.

Thanks again for choosing My Pet Chicken!
Best,
Karen

Yes I recently purchased 9 Black Copper Marans, 9 Golden Cuckoo Marans and 3 Golden polish hatching eggs. I am very disappointed with my order. Although all of them were intact when I recieved the mhe develpment is lackluster at best. I know nobody can control the hatch rate on shipped eggs I went off the 50 percent hatch rate that is the norm. I have a Genesis incubator. I have all of your eggs in this along with my own stock. the 3 polish are all doing well. The BCM are questionable. ALL of the Golden Cuckoos are not developing whatsoever. 9 eggs and not one develpment? Not right! I cracked a couple open and the didnt even look fertilized! I dont know who you breeder is, but you need a new one. I spent 8.00 an egg! Eight DOLLARS. I know the possibilities were there but Im very disappointed. All of my eggs 20 or so are developing. So I know its not my settings or incubator. I will never by anything from your company again. Im just floored. As now I cannot find my Golden Cuckoos that I really wanted anywhere. And as a Business this is my lively hood.

As I spoke to someone on the phone today. They are all bad as of today being candled on day 18. Your responding to an email 4 days old. I would not wish to invest more money in your eggs to have the same issues. The egg packing was mediocre. I spent 168.00 not including shipping on 21 eggs. I would except 10-11 chicks. Half BCMs and the other half GCMs. I will pay shipping. Its the same cost for you and im only out shipping.

yeah, honestly, they should have a policy for no development in any of the eggs. you shouldn't have to pay a dime for another batch. now THAT would be good business. cuz i mean NO development??? that's just crazy and obviously its not the shipping or your fault either. even with my case of 16 silkie eggs from MPC.....6 developed......that sucks, but it's something. and now i'm down to 3 viable chicks. so sad. but i'm not going to mess with MPC about it cuz i did have SOME development, even though i threw 10 eggs away that didn't develop at all. but in your case where there was NO development! man!! i would think the company would work with you on that one. even if there is no policy on it. it's just good business to work with people if there's no development in my opinion. i'm really sorry for you!! and Golden Cuckoos are beautiful!! have you thought of trying murray mcmurray? even though i bet you hate to spend anymore money! i don't even know if mcmurray sells golden cuckoos. or buy off of someone on BYC.

I'm not the only one who got bad hatch rates from mpc last oct I got 6 eggs from there got nine only 3 hatched one died early on and the others weren't even fertile!!!
I just got 26 eggs from there I think half of the bcm eggs I got are not even fertile! There shells are to dark to candle. This will be my last time getting eggs from there as either there birds don't know what there doing or they have to many hens for a rooster to take to.

yeah, and it's a shame. they're gonna lose business cuz of their horrible eggs. but i have always been happy with their chick shipments.

I hope there chicks are good I got some coming in two weeks. But all these horror stories are scaring me.

what kinda chicks you got comin? i bet you're excited! i think i'll order some EE chicks from them next year cuz i had 15 EE eggs that i bought (from a breeder) and i only have 3 viable out of that whole bunch too. but i blame that on the shipping. 2 of the eggs were totally demolished when i got them. AND they got hung up at the PO over the weekend. i never think THAT is good.
my absolute favorite pet chicken (named Cricket, and she's a Silver Cuckoo Marans) came from MPC and she's the best and sweetest hen EVER. but even aside from her, i've never been disappointed in their chicks. so good luck!
