Yeah, he got back on track pretty quick. He said it would set him back two days of work, but after one day, he was pretty much caught back up to where he was. He let me keep all the broken pieces of wood that he couldn't use. But I can use them for interior things, like roosts and nests.

We picked our collie puppy up yesterday! Just coming on briefly to post some photos of her. I've been busy all day trying to get whatever I can done in between her naps. I am going to be so far behind on everything....

The last six months of raising my other puppy have faded into a pleasant blur, and it's all coming back to me just how much work he was, and that I'm starting all over!











Lol, the youngest dog has the largest crate.

Oh, and we named her Clara.

Finally some progress on my shed!

I knew the puppy would keep me from getting things done, and I was right. (Well, the puppy and my new chicken hatching addiction... I've been getting those things done.)

But my husband decided he would like to use the long weekend to start working on the siding. So here is what we were able to accomplish the last two days:

Cut out the pop door so the siding could go around it:


Started with the front:



Then the west side, because that was where the shade was in the morning.

By this point we lost the shade. Oh well. I helped up to this point, and then my son took over and helped with the rest of the west wall. (While I mowed the dog run and cleaned up dog poop.

)




Then I had another turn helping, and my husband said he only had about another half hour left in him. So we got more on the front and started one row on the east side.




That piece laying on the ground is the color our house used to be (it's blue). We are flipping the pieces around and using the bare side. We think we are going to run out of that siding after we finish the front wall of the shed, so the east side and the back may have to wear cedar siding that is purchased new. Hard to believe that from our whole house, which is two story, and the stack of wood we had, that there wasn't enough usable pieces. But I like the look of the aged wood, so I'm glad we have what we've got. I'll have to try to "age" the new wood I buy. I heard you can do that with vinegar, but I'm not sure how yet.

Coconut, the turkey, was on patrol all day long. I think he felt he needed to keep an eye on the intruders in his yard. But my husband was the hero of the day! I'm so thankful that he worked so hard on it. I now realize I would not have been able to do that by myself. It takes two people to hold the long pieces of wood.

I'm so SO grateful!!

Hopefully we have some momentum started now, but our youngest son graduates from high school next week, so I have a party to plan...

Yeah, it's a little bit oversized for chickens, but it's always been more about the dream garden decor aspect than the chickens. They are just my excuse for making it!

DH was mentioning that he likes the look of the repurposed cedar, too. So now instead of emulating the BH&G church shed-peeling paint, we might just put some kind of sealer on it and leave it natural.

My coop shed is 16 x 16, the coop itself is only 6 x16 and 4 feet of that length can be partitioned off for a separate coop with a people door, pop door and run.
The remainder of the shed holds many supplies for chickens and other things...of course everything in the whole shed is covered with chicken dust.....
....but then I'm all about function over form...tho my building does indeed please my aesthetic.

Oh hey- it's all coming back to me now, aart! I read your coop build article a year or so ago when I was researching covered runs. You have really worked out ways to get around obstacles and make things work!

Whereabouts in SW MI are you? We lived in Portage for 10 years. (Born and raised Michiganders who have been living down here south of the border in Indiana for over a decade now. Idk HOW they made up the word "Hoosier"!

I hate the heat in the summer, but I could get used to the milder winters...)
