Bleenie, out of 5 embden/pilgrims goslings that survived long enough to tell, whisper appears to be the only blue from those 2 parents but the rest are still goslings and its too soon to tell. I really don't know where the blue came from but she is a pretty goose. Here is whisper's story!
To Kim, yes they are still my 'babies' and to everyone else... they grow up fast but thats perfect because I can relive the babies every Spring! (I tell DH that I'm ok with not having any more kids as long as I'm allowed to incubate eggs... hehe... he doesn't want more kids and is afraid if we do it will be twins again. It does run in the family so now I am allowed to hatch all the eggs I want.)
I assist-hatched whisper because she was a late hatcher and I was worried.
Whisper was weak and had a little bald spot on her head. At first I thought Whisper was a boy but now I think she is a girl. I guess I will know for sure next Spring. But she had a dark beak and I figure the pilgrim side of her might pass on some sex linked coloring... who knows? I've never done this before!
This is one of my 3-year olds with Whisper. Whisper and Arielle became fast friends. Actually, Whisper thought everyone was her mama.
Here is Whisper snuggled with Pipper in the Brooder. Maybe Pipper should have been outside by now but I couldn't separate them. They love each other.
I will get a current picture of whisper soon. She is about fully feathered now and is primarily blue but has some dark feather tips as is commonly seen in Pilgrims.
P.S. Sorry these pictures are so HUGE but I normally use photobucket and it wasn't working I had to use imageshack and they don't let me resize them. grr
