I have never seen a chicken chase it's tail. Hey, that's it, it's time to start mating and he has the most attractive tail in the flock! He's stuck on himself, try to find him a prettier girlfriend!!!!

Sad but I have mate that was hatched without a tail and they would make a cute pair.....

Mine start to do this before they lay their eggs. They must be in the nesting box 30 minutes turning in circles before they get the job done. I have also given mine a haircut around the eyes, it seems to eliminate the sporadic movements.

I have several that do it before laying too but this is just a twitch thing. I think a hair cut is in order. I will see what happens and then take another picture.

Your not alone in the circles. I have one Polish pullet that goes in circles in one direction for a while when she's stressed out about something, then the rest of the time she'll act totally normal. She's done this since 1 week old. I have another who pecks at air toward the back wire of her run. As if she's catching a fly. Repeatedly. She did this in the brooder, too. She'll spend hours doing it. Sometimes a silkie will join her.

If she's not blind, it may be a behavioral thing, like OCD in chickens.

She looks just like my Milly, also a Polish. Milly runs in circles like that a lot, too. She definitely is the low hen in the pecking order, so I suspect stress may have something to do with it. She eats, drinks, gets her share of treats and generally is doing fine, so I don't worry too much about it. It is pretty amusing to watch, tho!
