My Poor Ironman...please help!...another update post #15

Ok i called one of my friends from church...hes a vet...and i described what the syptoms where and what happened and he told me that it sounded like Ironman had severed a certain nerve and when this nerve is severed or damaged the leg is dragged behind the animal and the foot normally curls up. This is what happened to Ironman. He said the best thing to do for him is to give him some chilldrens advil for the swelling. I have decided that i would not keep him seperate from the other birds. He is able to somewhat walk so i took him down to the other birds and let him stay with them. He has trouble walking but he tried bathing himself and breeding with his mate so i am going to keep him down there and let him out when i am home but at night and when i am not home he is going to stay in a kennel at least till he figures out how to walk around a lttle better. I am hopping that with time he will get a little better at least. I know he will never have the full use of his leg again but i am trying to stay optimistic about his chance of survival...he seemed really happy to be down with the other birds and his mate so i am hopping that being down there will help with his recovery...

this is a pic of Ironman when he was NOT hurt...and also in the pic is Hulk...the best ganders in the world!!! I just thought you guys like to see what he looks like.

Poor Ironman... As long as he can get around to eat and drink.... I have a little duck hatched this season with a slipped tendon. She has to hop everywhere, but she is such a darling little thing. She will aways be an inside duck, and is very happy as she doesnt know what a noraml duck life really islike. She gets a swim every day, and is very spoilt. Ironman will learn to adapt. Animals are amazing like that sometimes.

pok well ironman has now started spreading out his foot when he limps around...he is doing better than before when he couldnt even spread his foot out...i hope he makes a full recovery

Nerve damage is a funny thing. It can repair itself in fits and starts. I had a damaged nerve in my face. It took 5 years to heal itself. I think it's a great sign that he is spreading out his foot. Be careful of the dragging limb. Check it daily for scrapes. He can injure himself by dragging it and not feel the injury because of the nerve damage. If he is injuring it by the dragging (scraping it and such), you might need to cover the area being injured with vetwrap or something. Swimming should be excellent therapy for the foot and leg. Can he swim with it?
