My Pullet Keeps On Getting Out Of The Yard!

I had a Barred Rock years ago that could fly over a 6 ft. fence all her life. Easiest thing to do is get some 7 foot deer netting & secure the top of your run. It comes in 7 by 100 foot rolls for about $20. Secure it with zip ties.

My Lakenvelders fly out all the time!! DH clipped the wings on one of them and has to clip the other one today! She got out and spent the night out by accident last night..glad she survived!

Glad I only have 4 birds, 1 Andalusian 1 campine 1 Brahma 1 lame bo. The Brahma was the problem when small she would go under the fence behind the hedge, there is a road there so that wasn't good. I thought I was going to have trouble with the flighty girls going over the 4' fence but I don't think they like being away from the other 2. Its a scary world out there for them. For you who don't have chicken chickens the deer net sound good

You may have to clip her wings. Have you seen her fly over the fence? Maybe there is a hole or a space she is getting through. Our chickens kept getting out because there was a space under the fence they could squeeze through.

The deer netting works pretty good for most birds. I used the heavier stuff to extend the fence on one of my runs with a short fence and it works well.

But I have two hens that started escaping when they were tiny chicks. I couldn't keep them in. Even now when they want out, they get out, even climbing the fence if they need to. They may go weeks and weeks without going out, then decide they want to free-range for awhile. Usually if I see they are itching to get out, I just let them out so they don't get hurt. They are very different girls though. Sometimes they choose to sleep in a different coop for awhile.
