My pullet thinks she is a peacock

If you're still getting fertile eggs, that would be a quite unusual rooster you had. I'm betting fertility is gone. It rarely lasts as long as 3 weeks, even.

Take everything out from under her-that's keeping her tied to the nest. Keep taking her off and dumping her on the floor, even put her in a dog crate in your house without a nest in it or something to break her spell.

I have never been able to break one. My first one wouldn't break even with a bag of ice cubes under her tush!

I will try that with the dog cage.I keep thinking I have a stealth rooster in the flock because I know I should not be getting any fertile eggs at this point. But every egg I crack is still fertile. I have six laying hens. I have 21 sixteen week old pullets, one was a cockerel but I got rid of him when I got rid of my BO roo. Everyone else is a pullet. My known cockerels are only 4 weeks old so I know it's not them.

Here is a picture I took of her today, all puffed up and ****** off.

Post a picture of one of these eggs you believe to be still fertile. Maybe you do have a super rooster, who knows?

You may already know this, but some folks don't. All eggs have the white dot on the yolk, though many people believe that is a sign of fertility. What you're looking for is the white ring around the dot, the bullseye. If you already know this, scratch what I just said, just wanted to make sure you knew.

Here is an egg that was laid today. Is this still fertile? They all look just like this one.

I just took a pic of the other four eggs I gathered today to use for making dinner.

It's been over a month since my roo was re-homed and I am still getting fertile eggs. The only logical explanation is that I have an undercover roo. All six of my Buff Orps are laying so I know they are all pullets. That leaves me with 21 pullets that will be 17 weeks old tomorrow that could be the culprit. Here are pictures, can you spot a hidden roo? None of the 17 week olds are laying yet, although I did see two of my black sex links testing out a nest box yesterday. I have not seen any roo-like behavior and no crowing at all. My other chicks are 12 weeks old and 4 weeks old, they are not old enough to even think about getting their roo on.

I think it's the one in the very back in picture 6! And I agree that those are fertile-lookin eggs.

May I just say that your broody is freakin adorable? heeehee I have no idea why angry hens are so funny to me. I must just be weird.

oh! by the way, teenaged roos arn't very good at controlling themselves. grab a lawnchair and a book and settle down for a read. You probably won't be there more than15 minutes before catching him romancing the girls.
