so our chicks (pullets and cockerels) are old enough to lay (we found there nesting spot) but we still cant tell which is which we've heard crowing but we cant tell whos doing it (its not our full grown roo tho) what should I look for to sex them. they just look so similar is there a way to use a tool to sex them or would that cause to much stress( we are putting the two flocks together and there doing good, but we haven't seen any pecking between them probably because they could see each other but not touch. and I don't want to cause anymore stress)

Jaspermoon,
Photos of them might help us Identify the cockerels from the hens since some are laying already. How old are they anyways?
around 3-4 months, id have to wait to get pictures and it might be hard to get all of them since there is around 20 of them

Unless they are a hen-feathered breed, the males should have their saddles showing.

Here's a photo of a solid colored male/female in case the saddles on yours aren't an obvious, contrasting color:

See how the male's lower back is shiny? The feathers are skinny and pointed, too. A female has the same feathers on her back as everywhere else.

I love this picture. I just wish they'd used the same breed for both sexes and did that for several plumage patterns. Once you get used to seeing it, it's hard to miss. But, I know that it took me a while to be able to spot the first cockerel feathers on buff and black in particular.
