My Punky's Gone

3 yrs old this coming May, top of the pecking order was a good leader loved by her small family of orpingtons they rallied around her urging her on these last few days but she didn't make it and passed this evening

She was independent, strong, kind to her flock when she was in her prime she had a floppy crest and layed eggs with a calcium swirl as her egg sig

I'm glad she's no longer suffering and she had a good life here, she was loved

Here's a vid I did a couple days ago nursing her giving her vitamin water
Sooo sad to loose a pet.:hugs
Do you know of the cause??? Are your other chickens also vulnerable to same??? 3 years is not old for orpingtons

Yes, unfortunately 3 yrs isn't old I don't know why but she had a slow crop, extreme weight loss, I was nursing her through it or trying to but she was independent so I didn't notice the weight loss in time since she preferred to not be handled so by the time I noticed I guess it was too late, or maybe nothing would of helped I'm not investigating my other 27 chickens are fine it's just one of those things

So sorry for your loss! Any pics of the spiral eggs?

If you still have an egg from her, you can pierce a hole in each end with a needle to drain the insides and keep the shell.

No unfortunately I don't she has been out of lay since molting in fall she gave a ton of eggs though the first half of her life nearly every day
