My PVC Peafowl/Poultry Coops

What a great opportunity WW. I have a pvc run, which is circular, and love it. I'm planning to make a larger one this spring for peas. The one I have is only 60' diameter. The size is only limited to netting size available (for the top) and money of course. I used chicken wire for the one I have (top).
Suzeeg- could you get some closeups of the door assy, I can't figure out how you attached it?

I have priced PVC plastic pipe when building Pea Palace. In some instances it looked like a great idea, but in others a disaster. For one aspect the cost of PVC 3/4" -10' lengths was comparable to a 2'x4"CCA board.Another thing is under extreme cold conditions PVC will shatter with something like a small tree branch falling on it.Drywall screws makes putting together boards and then taking them apart again very easy and quick and non damaging to the wood.I've read how these hoop houses are used for feeding large groups of quail and pheasants and seem to work well.

Actually FBC, not as much as you'd think. We made a pavillion with a 2" pvc frame, 14' x 24' and a canvas cover I sewed together. I had 6' walls and an A roof on this and it stood up to 3 Maine winters with lots of snow and ice. What would break on me was the elbows and connectors. I didn't glue them, I screwed them with sheetrock screws. I think if they had been glued this wouldn't have been a problem.

When I do finally get the outside pens done for the Peas, I'll use the 2" pipe on top of wooden posts to give height to the pens and also I'll run electric fencing right through the pipe to help support the netting and have it attached to the fence charger as well.

These have been up for several years. The wind just blows right through them.

I don't know where you can buy 20 feet of lumber for $6 bucks. The thing I like about the pvc is I can always take it apart and use it for other projects or for a water line what have you. the wind blows right through the hoop coops and I have not had one come apart yet after all these years. I have not had any freeze and shatter . I like the no rot, no mites , run my hotwire on the pipe itself with out using insulators, just zip tie the wire on the netting and posts at whatever height you desire. These runs can be endless. I can cover it with ground cover fabric )used in plant nurseries for about $25. And that stuff is very durable. I attach it to the pvc ribs with zip ties too. I have never had the wind rip any of this stuff out. Starting on my third big pen this coming week, as grow out pen for chicks. Also have peacocks, red and yellow golden pheasants, turkeys and I know I'm missing something...
