It really depends on how you manage them. I've got a few that are about 2 1/2 years old, but I had several more that have died. I don't give them extra heat or light so when our spring and fall weather gets whacky some of the weaker birds don't make it. Generally it's either 3-5 years or 5-7, I can't remember which.
ETA: As far as fertility, I haven't noticed any problems with mine. The majority of my birds are over 2 years old.
