My Quails feathers are completly falling out HELP!!!

Yes they are Texas Blue Scale. When they molt do they tend to loose all there feathers execpt for the head? They really look like they have been plucked and ready to roast. Will they start to lay eggs or only once a yr?

IMO blue scale and gambel's are poor choices if you want birds to handle due to thier nervous personality. Coturnix or even some strains of bobwhite probably would have been a better choice, although I do understand that the blue scale and gambel's are more attractive. This sounds like molting to me but part of it could also be stress. Not all quail are equal some speices and strains deal with human contact better than others.

No Quail Ideally Takes To The "george" Treatment... As In I Will LOve Him, And Pet Him, And Feed Him, And Bathe Him, And Call Him George

... They Are Gamebirds, Not Parrots. They Are All Spastic With The Exception Of Adult Coturnix Who Are Really More Like The Dairy Cow Version Of Quail

Well that sucks. I will have to keep my eye out for some babies. I really would have liked to get something for her but I don't think these guys will do the job. Guess I will have to wait until they have eggs so I can pickle them.

Hey Patty,
The eggs I sent you are coturnix, once they get a little age on them, you can fondle them as you wish. Some coturnix actually seem to enjoy it as JJ said above. IMHO, They get tamer in smaller groups. They will also crank out eggs most of the year if you give them a little light on a timer. Hows your hatch going? when they due? Bill

Hey There,
I wanted to thank you very very much for the eggs. I forgot to write the date down on when I put them in so I keep watching them and hope am I doing everything right so they will hatch. That is awesome that I will have something that I can hold since the ones I have you can't even look a them without them freaking out.

Thank You Again Very Much,
Patty
