Are you not allowed to have chickens where you live now? Have you considered quail? I hear they're a lot easier to keep confined in a very small yard, and much quieter! Or have you checked your city ordinance? Many towns will still allow a few hens in an urban setting. I hope you're able to move up "north" soon!
