my rant about some peoples excuses

Ridiculous! Our town just passed an ordinance allowing backyard chickens as pets (yay!) BUT our HOA Board has decided that they don't agree- actually one annoying board member is the culprit AND she doesn't even live in the neighborhood! Don't people realize that chickens are healthy for keeping bugs down, creating wonderful compost for backyard gardens, provide fresh healthy eggs AND are wonderful mood lifters (and who doesn't need a little happiness these days)! Don't knock it till you try it!!!

Sounds to me like she couldnt qualify for a mortgage and then needed to have an excuse for backing out when she was turned down by the banks.

I try to be a good neighbor, I don't keep roosters to keep the noise down. We built a six foot privacy fence for the girls ( looking into building a eight foot noise reduction fence ). Our yard is always mowed, edged and string trimmed. Give our neighbors free eggs without them even having to ask. Their kids even come over and ask if they can "play" with our chickens and ducks, I let them as long as they don't chase them. Actually the ducks are louder than the chickens.

I may be biased since I do have chickens but come on we live out in the country not within the city limits and there are farm animals every 1/4 of a mile sometimes even closer together.

The crematorium doesn't bother us, it was built after we moved here.If you didn't know what it was you would never guess. They actually built it to match their house, it looks like a detached garage, very tastefully done. Plus the people are super nice. They also have farm animals.

I just don't understand some people. Our guess was that she was turned down for a mortgage and just used that as an excuse.

Thanks for letting me get my rant out before I took it out on someone or something.

I'd rather live with either pigs, chickens, or both than with most people.

Every now and then I will over hear people talking about "those people" that live back there in the woods at the store etc. I always jump right in with "I heard about them", "they are crazy", "don't go near them". Then I dust off our no trespassing signs on the way down the driveway. Nothing like free advertising.

We live way back in the woods also, in the middle of 250 acres of trees, field and mountain. Even faced our house AWAY from the road and built it way back. People ask us why the front of the house doesn't face the road and we just smile and tell them we'd rather look at the trees.

That's hilarious! I'd be proud to be "those people"!
I'd be glad she didn't buy a house near me. My feeling is this, as soon as my neighbors start paying the substantial taxes we pay on this place, THEN they can have a say in what goes on here-until there-tough cookies!

Some people realllllllly hate chickens. I've definitely heard from people that chickens are filthy, disgusting animals. It wouldn't surprise me if someone felt strongly enough about it to pass on a house.

Their prerogative, I guess.

Personally, I'd be relieved to know she didn't buy the house. Who wants chicken haters for neighbors.

The other day my neighbor stopped by and my rooster was crowing incessantly. I said, "By the way, I'm sorry if my rooster bothers you, I know he crows a lot." To my surprise he said, "Yeah, I can hear him all the way from my house, but I like it". He likes it?! He said it reminds him of some old Clint Eastwood movie, I have no idea what movie he meant, but couldn't have been more thrilled to know he's fine with it. Now THAT'S a desirable neighbor!

Sometimes I smell manure in the air and wonder if my neighbors think it is my chickens making all that stink, lol.

Did the mom ever figure out it was you who had the chickens? Probably for the best as you never know if that friendship with the girls would last, and having a former friend as a neighbor would be uncomfortable!

I'll admit to never wanting chickens b4. There were chickens around the corner from us. And, plain and simple, it stunk! There was a really fowl odor!

Then, I made a new friend. She had horses and let me ride one. She also had a pig, ducks, geese, turkeys and chickens! And, there was no odor. My daughter starting working part time on a farm that had both horses and chickens. One day, they gave me a dozen fertile eggs, some brown, some green, and some white. I had no incubator, so took them out to my friend's farm. She had a broody hen, but no rooster, so we switched eggs on her. And, the rest, as they say is history.

I agree, you are better not having a neighbor like that. Years back, we had a real gem move into the neighborhood, which is a 30 house subdivision in the middle of farming and forest. She actually called the police to complain the cows were moo-ing too loudly. She had many other fine qualities. Finally moved back downtown.
