Even a big rat is only a few pounds ... Most dogs are 10-50 times bigger than that ... So if it ate the one dead rat completely, it would get the small dose (at most) of what would kill a rat ... Dogs can puke too if it has a unhappy belly ... Usually in you favorite chair! 
Most dogs poisoned from rat poison is from getting into the poison itself and pigging out ... Put it in the proper dispenser and you dog won't get it! (Or store it properly while waiting to put out) don't get a couple of boxes and set them on the ground where your pet can get it.
