that is why we did the metal trim, so far, knock on on wood they have tried but not been able to get in

how did you do metal trim? Can I see a pic?
I've been thinking about doing something like this to get a bigger coop for my girls.

we just bought metal trim that was pre-folded tacked it down with small nails

I have the same shed for just 3 Silkies. They are still in the brooder. Did you add ventilation? I don’t know if I need to since it’s such a big space and there’s just 3...

There is a Vent area in the back part of the coop. No issues last Winter so not expecting any this year.

Just updating pics of the covered run with the Carport cover.

From upstairs window, this is the North side- you can also see I covered the Koi Pond with Wood. There is a water heater in there that is auto thermostat and the wood helps it not lose heat so uses less Electricity. Run is a 10'x20' carport frame I had and a new cover.

Here is the East side, you can see I did put the end cover on but left the top part open for ventilation. The white fence behind it is 10 Foot tall. I have some wood 'slats' inside to help with snow ... not that it will work well but hey...

last pic is of the Coop and my 'door' to the run. Ventilation on this side. The plastic piece is just leaning on there. There is fencing behind it. This is the West side of the Coop and a 6' white fence behind the coop.

FYI, if you do this, MAKE SURE IT IS HELD DOWN FOR WIND !!! Wind will take this thing 100 yard away if you do not secure it. You can see I have some Blocks on it. Those are 80# wall blocks. Inside are also some Blocks and Cinder blocks tied to it. There is also 2 Rebar stakes into the ground about 2 feet in 2 corners. I wanted 4 but there are some pipes underground I don't want to hit.

Also, if you ar thinking about this get the ROUNDED top one. You can see where mine is not taunt across the top. Although mine is not completely flat/level so that is an issue, but the Round ones are So much easier to get Snow off of.

50 y/o woman, but darn strong is me.
You just need to work SMARTER and not harder.
Not to mention that I have put this together before so I just took my time. The frame was already up so adding the cover was just a matter of undoing one small section on the bottom at a time.
You can't see it but there are poles that go along the inside bottom about 8inch off the ground. Those poles go in a sleeve that hold down the cover and make it taunt.


All of the sheds in my yard I did alone too. Same with my Koi pond. Same with moving (5 times) 80 of those 80# wall blocks

When I originally put this up for my truck it took about 2.5 hours, again just me.
I think it took about 1/2 hr to put the cover on as I had the hens in there with me (not my choice they wouldn't leave) so I was trying to do it slowly as to not scare them.

I have a plastic shed which is sitting on a concrete slab. It has been there for about 12 years or so. I've used it to store garden stuff off and on and now want to use it for a chicken coop. I've been going thru this thread and it answers some of my questions, but I think I need to put in some windows for more light. My shed is single wall and as a carpenter I make a good secretary, so.... There are bushes next to the shed on the south side which in past years have been a favorite spot for the chickens to hide during the day. I have plenty of room to make them a large pen and have already laid out what I think will be their yard. So, my question is. What do I use to cut holes for windows? I am an old widow, but do have some help I can call on for some stuff. However, I am one of those nutty old gals that wants to do it herself.
