Ok you guys have said roo - hen -roo hen and then roo again. This bird looks rooish but acts like a hen (IMO) but then I'm no expert. I saw on another thread that someone else had a RIR with big comb and wattles like this one and everyone said pullet. I am so confused and so is Cupcake. She is 13 weeks old now.

I guess I should wait until I hear some crowing from him/her or see an egg. Her hatch-mate has been crowing for three weeks and they are best buddies - another reason I think pullet - they never really fight or anything.

I think RIR's are hard to peg what sex they are until they either crow or lay an egg! Mine is 12 weeks old and is so much more rooish than this one..... Rose stands more like a roo!

At 13 weeks, I want to say roo with that. Unless those shiny neck feathers are round and there are no hackles which I think I see. If it was 18 weeks, I'd be tied. So for now I will say bottom roo.

Want hard, do silkies. LOL AND they make you wait till like 8 months to lay.

I have Silkies in my incubator right now - it's too late...

Oh and what do you mean by "bottom roo"?

Okay, I don't see the comb and wattle, but with the shiny feathers and how they hang near the butt, I will also say Roo. I heard that some RIR's don't drow till 18+ weeks.

yeah - as long as s/he gets most of the raisins - then nothing else matters. I got him jumping about 18 inches into the air now for a raisin. I ran out for a day and s/he followed me around the yard the whole day giving me the evil sideways chicken eye...
and God forbid I have something in my hand that is not a raisin - you would think I was offering poison!

I have some RIRs that are about that age (they actually just started laying) and I definitely think that is a pullet.

My guess would be roo. My RIR's at 13 weeks had very small combs and now at 5 months are the same size as yours at 13 weeks, plus mine do not have any greenish feathers.

These were my girls at 12-13 weeks

And this is Emmeline at 18 weeks
