I came home from work and all 9 hens ran up as usual. Where was Roo Dude (Rooster). In the pen, by the coop, face down. I shook him and then picked him up and held him. His breast was still warm, but he was getting stiff elsewhere.

Not a scratch. Nothing. My beautiful Roo, just gone. I just buried him way out in the field.

What the heck? Maybe he choked on something.... I just had to write to you all who understand. I am crying like a big baby.

I'm so sorry, ellie! I'd be crying, too, if it was my Hawkeye or my sweet Suede. [IMG]

Thanks, everyone. He was only 5 1/2 months old. He just showed the girls food for the first time this weekend. Before that, he would take it out of their beaks if it was bread! Silly guy.

    Hey, is this common?

Gosh, I am so glad you are all here.

I sure am sorry. It just happens sometimes for no apparent reason. [IMG]

    My condolences.
Maybe he saved the girls from something but his poor heart just couldn't take the scare?
