The dances are entertaining but I don't like what happens after that. I know it's what they are supposed to do but the mating is too aggressive for me. I know that i shouldn't but I sometimes run the roosters away when they jump on the hens. I feel so sorry for my girls.

Me too kuntry! Mine are 17 weeks and the roo (that's in the run/coop) is a pain in the butt. He doesn't dance that much, just chases the girls (sometimes mates, though I think he's still learning). Some hens even go in and hide in the coop on the roosts (which is unusual for them in the day, though they may be thinking about laying).

I chase him too, I think both roos may go in the pot. But, I want babies.

all my hens are over a year old...its not like they are not "little" girls

Your girls aren't ready. When they are when the rooster approaches the girls will accept him. It is stressful, however it does get better. We just rehomed three roosters and kept the one who the girls seemed to hang around and now all is good in the flock. We only have a couple who will accept the rooster, but when he approaches the others they let out a little scream and he backs off. Sometimes it is just the type of rooster you may have. Not all of them are gentle.

Sometimes my roo dances around the girls for reasons other than mating. He uses it to get them back in line. Like telling them to get back in the coop.

he is relatively new to the flock, the funny thing is I got him and a hen and their colours were so pretty and he was so graceful looking I called the pair Fred and Ginger.... and Now Fred is dancing for the group...lol
