Good morning everyone. I have a few questions. Last Sunday, my flock was attacked by 2 hawks. They killed one hen and carried off my rooster. A day and a half later, today is one week to the day, he returned with no back feathers and only a few tail feathers, his middle toe was cut, slightly bleeding, and swollen. I have human, medical knowledge, which I used to doctor his wounds. However, it's the dead of winter where I live and I fear allowing him to roam free, outside, due to potential frostbite. I have been adding immune-boosting herbs to the water and feeding them live mealworms for protein. My flock, of now 11 birds are itching to be released, is it safe to allow my rooster outside? Also, how do I know if his toe is healing properly? It is still slightly swollen, but he is putting weight on it and jumping on and off the roost. Is there anything else I can do to make sure he isn't seriously injured internally? Thank you all in advance.
