my rooster gives treats to his hens... also, goose-like honkin?..

Whenever I give our flock some treats that consists of meat scraps or a bug that I've caught in the house, the rooster, who is a year old orpington, always lets the hens have it. He'll even pick up the treat and either bring it to one of them or call them over to it. I was just curious if this is a common thing with roosters or do we have an exceptionally doting rooster! He pretty much let's them have have first dibs on all goodies, except for chicken scratch of course!

He'll also make these loud honking sounds, very much like a goose. What's that all about??
