My rooster has favus! Help Please!

Hawkeye was a hatchery BR. Poor guy was penned with a turkey and had missing comb parts, as you can see in the photo. Favus or other fungal infections are probably fairly common in mucky pen conditions like he was living in. I don't want to hijack this person's thread, but if you want to read a little about Hawkeye's "renovation", check out this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=211673&p=1

Will
check back for pictures posted of the rooster in question.

I lost a bantam cochin hen to favus a couple of years ago. No one else in the coop got it and they weren't in moist conditions. I never could figure it out but there was no doubt what it was. I did everything in my power to cure it but couldn't.

Early intervention is key, I believe.

Three Cedars, no idea why she'd have it. Sometimes, their ailments are just complete mysteries. Usually, favus will spread to others in the flock. Are you positive that's what she had? There are other fungal conditions like canker, but I've never heard of a bird actually dying from favus. Canker will kill and is around the mouth and in the throat, but it's also contagious.

She didn't have anything around her mouth. Just skin that looked 1000 years old with big white flakes. She gradually lost weight and failed to thrive which is probably what killed her...not the favus.

I used all kinds of antifungals as soon as I noticed it and treated her for about 3 weeks before she succumbed. I looked all over the internet for anything else that it might be and didn't see anything.
