So yesterday morning I went out and didn't see 2 of my hens. But it was thier laying time, didn't think much about it (7 am). 9am I went out and red came for treats, but rocky was still awol. Went and looked in the house, she wasn't there. Uh oh. Blood all over the walls. Double and triple uhoh. Then, boom! She comes running up from a brush pile. Missing a huge chunk from her neck. SOMETHING tried to take her in the middle of the night.

Ozzy my rooster is the only reason I'm not missing 1 or more hens. Probably a weasel or coon due to how the wound is. Yesterday I gauzed and wrapped it with triple antibiotic. Today I took pics after I put on more. Pics attached. Ozzy is very proud of himself and is now sleeping at the only entrance ramp to their perches.

She's not happy. As you can see, it got her good. Lots of bruising. Lots of feather loss on that side.

right now it's wound care 100%.
She's doing really good with the whole house chicken deal. Eating and drinking and pooping.

From the blood splatter marks whatever it was grabbed her and pulled her to the floor. There was a definite scuffle. HUGE scuffle from the marks. I'm assuming Ozzy dropped on its back and scared it away. Or beat it and scared it away. It couldn't have been long or she would have been a goner. And the bite mark tells me it had a death grip on her. I put ointment before pics. If I hadn't, well, you can see all the muscles and almost bone. It is bad. We're hopeful she'll pull through. I read the emergency forum yesterday for deep wound care.
