i have had my rooster for 3 years now and last week i went in to check for eggs and put out new scratch, (nothing new) do it every day, and he came at me and jumped at me a few times, i stood my ground untill he stoped, then left. nothing happened till yesterday when i tiped over a pan i put oyster shell in, and he really got me!! i have bruses and cuts on my arms from where he attaced me. is there any way to make him quit or do i need to get rid of him, (i have 4 kids and dont want him to hurt them).

It may be time to rehome or soup put him.

Some people have success with picking him up & carrying the roo around for a while (feet dangling)---it will assert YOUR authority, but may not help with how he acts towards the kids.

Maybe someone else will have advice.

Did you smack him with the first thing you had available? like the pan?

If not, the next time he comes at you, smack him with something so that he knows you're boss.

i have a friend who said he would trade me him for one of his 1 year old blue merans, but he plans on serving him with noodles. i just didnt know if this was fixable or a common thing with roosters. i raised this boy from a one day old and he has always been ok untill the past week.

My mom had an EE rooster for about 5 years before he started attacking her. As far as whether or not it's common, some get mean, some don't. Depends on the bird.

he is a cross between a americana and a dominique, he is the prittest rooster i have ever seen, black and white barrs with brown patches, but- pritty is as pritty does.

There are lot of pretty roos out there. You deserve a lap roo.

And since I have lost my manners, yet again:
