I have 10 hens and a 6 month old Rooster(Pecker)who was happy guy till a few days ago.Pecker started ruling the roost about month and half ago.He really enjoyed prancing around showing off and cock-a-doodle-dooing for the ladies.Pecker thought he was real lady's man jumping up on all the hens but it seemed to me like he was a little to rough when he grab back of there necks and he sure finished quick. A few days ago after sneaking on and mounting my biggest hen something happened. Ashley decided to take matters into her own hands.About 15 minutes after Pecker finished he went strutting by Ashley and that's when it happened.Ashley jumped up on Pecker grabbed him by back of his neck and she road him till he was flat on his belly crying. The whole time this is happening the other hens were going nuts I'm not sure if they were cheering for Ashley or laughing at Pecker but when it was all over Pecker was emasculated and embarrassed. He has been moping around coop ever since.I miss proud exuberant Pecker strutting around for the ladies. What can I do to get his confidence back?

This is interesting.

Maybe Ashley, as an older member of the flock, was asserting herself as the Head Hen. My rooster is in charge, but Rosemary rules the hens, and I'm not sure I've ever seen Henry mount her before.

When he had to be removed from the flock to recover from some injuries, Rosemary really strutted around as Head Hen, more so than ever, and there was a noticeable shift in the other hens' behavior toward her. She essentially was trying to replace Henry as flock master.

When Henry returned to the flock, he was subservient to Rosemary, until he regained enough of his strength and was able to reassert his role in a showy chest bumping Spanish dance with her. From that day forward the pecking order had been reestablished and they get along just fine.

Your six month old rooster is sexually maturing. Perhaps this is Ashley's way of staying at the top of the pecking order and knocking him down a few rungs where she feels he belongs.

Well, first of all, your "rooster" is still a cockerel. A teenager if you will. If your hen is truly a hen (over a year old) and not a pullet, she's letting him know that he has not earned her respect. He's just doing what his overloaded hormones are telling him, which is to "BREED, BREED, BREED!" Once those level off, he'll show off a little by strutting around, dancing for them, finding them treats and calling them over. If he's any kind of a good rooster, anyway. Give him time, he'll get over it.

I absolutely agree with this! I have to admit I couldn't help but laugh. He got what was coming to him. You will probably find that when he gets going again he'll be more respectful of the ladies and hopefully gentler. Good for her standing up for herself and the other girls, teach him the rules!

I am also curious of her age. Don't feel too badly for him I'm sure he'll be just fine, I have one hen, a cream legbar that rules the flock and no cockeral or even roo dares cross her. She just doesn't take their garbage. Unfortunately it means she doesn't often let herself be bred which is a major pain when I want to collect eggs for hatching.
