He's become way accustomed to human interaction...and he's hungry!See.. crazy friendly!
I feed him three times a day I switch out the mash. I’m so afraid of it going bad or getting moldy. I know that’s probably excessive but I want to be sure he’s getting enough. So he always has access to fresh mash on a free feed basis. Do you think that possibly means that he’s not ingesting enough that he’s become this friendly? He's become way accustomed to human interaction...and he's hungry!
No I think he's 'friendly' because he's used to interacting with you due to the need for extra attention....chickens are always 'hungry' for treats if they are used to getting them -they will come running when the treat bringer is in sight.Do you think that possibly means that he’s not ingesting enough that he’s become this friendly?
It’s an unwritten rule that any animal you need to provide special care for, your end up favoring this animal because they rely on you for interest and they become a custom to human interaction like a commentor sad. And so does my story with this little guy.I feed him three times a day I switch out the mash. I’m so afraid of it going bad or getting moldy. someone suggested this the first day I posted about him (maybe you?)- and I weigh myself wearing the same thing, first thing in the am and make sure my weight is the same and then I weigh myself with him. So far, so good. He’s actally gained a bit! Thank goodness. No I think he's 'friendly' because he's used to interacting with you due to the need for extra attention....chickens are always 'hungry' for treats if they are used to getting them -they will come running when the treat bringer is in sight.
You did have to call him multiple times on the vid before he showed up.
You'd have to weight him regularly to see if he's gaining or losing weight,
which might be a good idea for a few weeks.
Great idea. That’s an airhead move. I even have one. I should have thought of this.A smaller scale(like a kitchen scale) would be much more accurate,
you want to measure in grams or ounces, not pounds.
Might be hard to hold him on there, or maybe not as 'tame' as he is.Great idea. That’s an airhead move. I even have one. I should have thought of this.
Yes. Awesome. I’ll do that. And you’re right- as tame as he is I can just make him lay down and he’ll stay. But for others- should I have to weigh someone else going forward- a bowl is a great idea. I get so very many good ideas from this community.Might be hard to hold him on there, or maybe not as 'tame' as he is.
A bowl might help, don't forget to tare the bowl weight.
