Ah, if only we all had a roo like that. Although, if my roo killed a hawk and somebody found out about it, chances are somebody would come and actually try to take my roo away and charge us just the same (considering some of the whacked out things that happen in this world and have happened to us, not chicken related).

That's one really good roo! Wish we had a roo like that. We had a hawk attack recently, but thankfully I ran out and scared the hawk off before it injured anybody.

Unfortunately chickens are on the low end of the food chain. we all hate to lose our girls, no matter what the cause. I personnally love to watch and photograph all birds(chickens too). The hawk in my avatar (or one just like it) has shown up two years in a row(That I saw). I can't have a roo in town but our JG took over that roll while we had her. Now one of the new wellsummers is taking over the protection racket. The neighbors cats were the first to be introduced to chicken respect(also by Jade-JG). Now they watch over and protect my girls. funny how things can work out. After all that, my heart goes out to everyone(even me) who has lost a dear friend,companion or just a great chicken.

what kind of hawk was it? yesterday a hawk, possibly a merlin, killed and began to eat one of my hens, the others all ran to the other side of thier pen. It was in the hen house! It was shocking to me. we had a rooster and I have heard many hawks but none have tried this, possibly because the roo is gone?
