My Rooster Red

I call a BR for the sake of conversation. Having seen pure bred stock I am reluctant to call as such. But that's what I thought I'd bought. Oh well! As for the Cornish they are nice looking pure or not. Hope to eventually start breeding chickens. I like large breeds good egg layers. What breed can I start with?

Gotcha it is just that misinformation, deliberate or not us unfortunately not uncommon in the hobby. You could make very colorful chickens using that roo over different colored hens- brown, buff etc.

Actually, the cornish being hatchery stock could be a better thing for you. The show stock ones are very impressive to look at but they can be difficult to manage and breed because of their anatomy being so extreme. None of such problems with hatchery stock yet they are still meaty enough to enjoy.

So what would these "BR" be called? Call me naiev on the matter. What's worse I bought 4 and all turned out to be cockrels. Slaughtered 1 got 3 more to go unless I can give them away. There's one that's much darker than the one in the pic nice looking but told he's not pure either because of random red feathers on him. But I will learn how to choose finer breeds.
