My rooster was exposed to a windy 30 degrees and seems sick; is there anything I can do for him?

Thank you! This sounds like a good one to go with.

Thank you! Do you know what the generic is called?

I now have 7 of 14 chickens sneezing. They seem to be getting over whatever it is fairly quickly, so I'm trying not to worry. An antibiotic that resistanance won't

It's called Triamulox, but really, idk how much cheaper it is. Whichever you get, Denagard or Triamulox, should last awhile. It's a little pricey, but worth it. There are several places to get it on line. If you get it from FirstState vet supply it comes with dosing instructions for chickens, including treatment and preventative doses. You do have to mix it with something to make it palatable, because it's very bitter. I mix 1 1/2 cups of unsweetened apple or white grape juice in a gallon of medicated water, plus a small amount of corn syrup, 1/4 cup.

Will this treat any potential respiratory infection, or does it only treat MG? I ask because they aren't showing any other signs of illness, just sneezing and I don't want to get one that only works on MG.

If you are just seeing sneezing, that sounds more like a virus, such as infectious bronchitis or other. Those tend to last a few weeks or a month and then clear up. If you see any wrinkled egg shells, that can be a sign of IB. With a virus such as IB, chickens can be carriers for up to a year, so the disease typically spreads through the whole flock eventually. It helps to not hatch chicks or add new birds to your flock for a year after all birds are healthy. Sometimes IB and a mild strain of MG can appear similar. Testing can be done, and if you ever lose a bird, your state vet can test with a necropsy.

Yes, just sneezing. Almost all the chickens are back to normal now. Two hens still have the occasional sneeze, but it hit one rooster is really hard. He's still sneezing a lot. (We had one night in the 20's and several in the 30's, so he spent a few days in isolation in my dad's shop where he had heat.)

No super wrinkled eggshells so far, but there has been a slight decrease in the number of eggs. There were a couple that had wrinkles on the ends but it wasn't extremely noticeable.

A year is better than what I was reading about MG, which seems to never go away. I wasn't planning to get any more chickens or hatch any more until next year, so a year isn't bad.

I have one rooster in "sick bay" who hasn't gotten it yet and I really don't want to isolate him for a year... hopefully if he ends up catching it, he will recover quickly. His brother sneezed for two days and was back to normal.

Thank you, I hope I won't lose any to have tested. So far so good. ❤️
